Glaucoma is the name given to a group of diseases that causes damage to your optic nerve. For us to be able to see, we need three things. We need an eye, a brain, and an optic nerve. The eye is a bit like a camera taking photos and the brain is your computer that downloads those images. Your optic nerve connects the two and that’s a bit like a USB or HDMI cable. Glaucoma damages that nerve so that those images cannot pass to the brain and therefore causing problems with your vision. Usually at the periphery to start and then if left untreated, continuing on until you’ve lost the centre part too.
