“A chalazion or a stye is formed by a blocked eyelid gland.
Usually it’s inflammatory but it can be infected as well.
Sometimes there’s an underlying condition called blepharitis which I’d be looking for if I was examining you.
That’s where glands in the eyelid can become blocked and infected and if one of them becomes particularly blocked and forms a cyst that becomes infected, that’s what makes your chalazion or stye.”
