Having an eyelid operation under local anaesthetic is relatively pain free. When we give the local anaesthetic injection, you might feel a short sting for no more than 10 or 15 seconds. However, once that’s taken effect, the eyelids are nice and numb and although you can sometimes still feel some pressure or touch, there should be no discomfort to you. Postoperatively, the eyelids may feel a bit bruised or even a bit tight after surgery. You can use a cold compress to help relieve that sensation, but taking some painkillers on occasion may also be of benefit. This discomfort lasts no more than a day or two and settles down quite quickly.
