Oculoplastics
What is the difference between blepharoplasty and ptosis surgery?
Duration 0:58
These are technical terms, which to be honest, get mixed up by a lot of professionals, be they opticians or general practitioners, or sometimes even other eye doctors. And so that's why it's important you see a subspecialist such as an oculoplastic surgeon. Blepharoplasty involves the skin along the upper eyelids. So if, for instance, you've got upper eyelid bags and the skin is resting on your eyelashes, then more than likely, you'd need a blepharoplasty to help correct that. Whereas a ptosis surgery, it helps people open their eye a little bit wider, so that involves a stitch inside the eyelid muscle to help lift the eyelid. And quite often, people might need both actually to get the outcome they're desiring. And again, that's why it's important to see someone such as myself who does these surgeries every week.
