An epiretinal membrane is a layer of scar tissue that grows on the surface of the retina, unfortunately almost invariably at the very centre of the retina in the macular area which we use for fine vision. It’s age related, usually after the jelly has pulled away from the wall of the eye, cells are deposited making a membrane that grows on the surface.
