After blepharoplasty surgery, it normally takes a week or two for the eyelid swelling to settle down, and it may get worse over the first couple of days before it starts to get better. Important things that you can do to help minimise that are to use regular cold compresses or ice packs, to keep your level of physical activity to a minimum, certainly no exertional exercise for the first seven to 10 days. Sometimes keeping the head of the bed elevated can reduce any swelling that occurs overnight, but in most cases, by the end of the second week, things are settling back to normal and you can resume normal activity. I always think it’s important to take a little bit of time off work, at least a week, just to give you time to heal and allow things to settle down before you get back to a busy life.
