There are many different types of glaucoma surgery and all have individual success and failure rates. At Sapphire, I’m proud to say that we offer a full range of different types of treatment. They can be small like lasers and stents to larger operations like big tubes and trabeculectomies. The reason we do surgery is often to get the pressure down to a level low enough to slow glaucoma progression, something that hasn’t been managed by more conservative measures, like drops. I often say to my patients there’s a 95% chance of bringing their pressure down and safely taking them off drops. In the 5% where this doesn’t work, it just means they may need a second operation or may need to continue on with the drops as well as the operation.
