Transcript
That is of course the aim of refractive lens exchange and it can be achieved in many patients. However, no lens implants are perfect and the more that one tries to achieve with the operation, the greater the risk of potential side effects. The basic principles are that using an extended depth of focus implant to reduce spectacles for large print computers, dashboard type distance, is associated with minimal side effects. However, moving on to multifocal implants, trying to remove spectacles for close work as well is associated with an increased risk of halo and glare, and needs careful consideration with the surgeon, prior to implanting these more complex lens implants.
