“The two main treatment options for a chalazion or stye are firstly conservative management.
That normally takes the form of warm compresses in the form of flannels soaked in hot water or more usefully using hand warmers, disposable hand warmers to apply to the eyelids for some heat.
In addition, some antibiotic eye ointments often suggested and also cleanliness of the lid margins with scrubbing. If the lump doesn’t go away with these conservative measures, there are two other commonly used options. The first one is a surgical procedure which is done in a minor operations theatre and is done under local anaesthetic and takes about half an hour at the most. The other option is used less commonly and involves a small steroid injection into the lump itself. This can have side effects, particularly lightening of the skin, and it isn’t recommended in most cases.”
