“Blepharitis is a combination of an infection and inflammation of the eyelid glands.
The eyelid glands produce the oily layer of your tears and they’re important because if the oily layer isn’t there then the watery layer just evaporates off and you end up with dry eye.
The symptoms are often described as itchy, burny eyes and that’s what people will present to their optician or to their GP with.
Blepharitis is a really common condition particularly as people get older so over 60 years of age two-thirds of people have it.
It’s also particularly common in people with a Celtic skin colouring so fair-skinned blue-eyed people have a particular propensity to it.”
